Seismic Analysis of Existing Facilities

Technology Category: Seismic Engineering

Dead Load + Live Load graphicDescription: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has conducted analyses of the 324 and 327 Buildings on the Hanford site to evaluate their response to an earthquake. These facilities house a number of hot cells used for radiological engineering. Analyses are required to demonstrate the structural integrity of the facility under seismic loading. ANSYS finite element models were developed to represent the buildings and hot cells. 0.82 (Dead Load + Live Load ) + Earthquake graphicThe site specific seismic response spectrum for a medium hazard facility was applied to the models. The loads were combined according to the appropriate procedures. The moment, force and stress results compared with ACI and AISC code allowables.
