Manny

Manny

Technology Category: Human Emulation

Description: Manny, the robotic mannequin, was developed by PNNL for the Dugway Proving Ground. Prior to Manny, testing of protective clothing was done using either static mannequins or humans. Manny is an anthropomorphic robot capable of reproducing human motions such as walking, sitting, bending, and flexing. This permits the effects of human motion on the effectiveness of protective clothing to be examined in a realistic, controlled, and repeatable manner. In addition to Manny's realistic range and speed of motion, simulated breathing and sweating were included along with temperature control of the "skin" surface.
