Description: C(bot is a compact, portable, dual-manipulator robot designed and constructed to solve Rubik's Cube(. The robot system reads the color pattern form the scrambled cube faces, computes a solution, and manipulates the parts to make each side of the cube a uniform color. This robot was developed to demonstrate Battelle's capabilities in integrating electro-optics, microprocessing, and mechanical systems into a "smart" robot. The robot can solve the most complex scrambled cube in about four minutes. Although some humans are faster (20 to 25 seconds), the C(bot illustrates the successful integration of color vision and adaptive intelligence with several degrees of mechanical dexterity to solve a complex problem.
