Description: In 1993, several mobile robots were purchased and designed and built at PNNL to inspect interim storage tanks at the Hanford site. The tanks were located in rooms and vaults that were not accessible to humans due to a high radiation environment. The inspection was performed in two phases 1) visual inspection, 2) NDE inspection of tank walls and pipes. These inspections were carried out using several mobile robots. The one shown here was a remote visual inspection robot, designed for high-resolution imaging of the lower tank wall sections and piping.
