Determine Sensitive Stress Indicator (445)
Problem: Determine mRNA* indicators of environmental stress in target species that will enable early effect detection.
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Mechanisms
PNNL Solution:
- Conducted stressor exposure testing to determine stress effects
- Analyzed mRNA from control and stressed samples to identify responsive mRNA that can be used for early detection of effects
- Confirmed dose dependence of response
- Selected mRNA fragments for follow-on tests
*mRNA - Messenger Ribonucleic Acid chemical fingerprint for a protein product - originally transcribed for a DNA template.
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Nucleic acid extraction and analysis, mRNA probe selection.
