Alternate Methods for Organism Detection (455)
Problem: Determine preferred DNA/mRNA measurement method for evaluating environmental exposure effects.
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Sensors and Devices through Instruments.
PNNL Solution:
Two technical approaches can be used to detect microorganisms
- Used multiple, single organism arrays to detect specific organisms in sample mix
- Used broad response array to detect fragments of many organisms; interpretation depends on pattern recognition based on prior response experience
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Nucleic acid extraction, oligonucleotide design, array printing, and array hybridization and detection.
