Problem: Need selective biomarker protein patterns to identify unknown biological materials in the laboratory

PNNL Solution:
- Apply liquid chromatography to separate intact proteins and couple with Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption and Ionization - Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-MS) to generate protein map of sample
- Intact protein molecular weight information is obtained
- Molecular weight information is more accurate than obtained with 2-D gel electrophoresis
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: MALDI-MS methods development; Algoworks peak detection algorithm (PNNL patent); MATLAB algorithms; multidimensional liquid chromatography; automated eluent deposition; automated MALDI-MS data collection; automated peak extraction and data processing.
