Sensor Response to Unknown Chemicals (390)
Problem: Need methods to interpret chemical sensor array response to new chemicals not in the calibration data base.
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Mechanisms through Sensors and Devices
PNNL Solution:
- Sensor array response is equivalent to a spectrum that can be interpreted even if a reference spectrum is not available
- Develop models to transform array response vector (spectrum) to a vector containing descriptors of the detected vapor
- Descriptor values indicate probable chemical class
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Experimental characterization of chemical vapor interactions with polymer coatings; modeling vapor-polymer interactions; determination of vapor-polymer interaction parameters; chemometric data analysis; testing of model against chemical vapors beyond the learning set.
