Problem: Need robust, miniature chemical sensors to provide rapid, reversible analysis of multi-component chemical vapors

PNNL Solution:

  • Quartz-based SAW sensors, coated with chemically selective films, can detect chemical vapors
  • Sensor arrays, with diverse coatings, detect multiple chemical vapors
  • Chemometric analysis is used to calibrate multiple vapor signals

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Thin polymer film application methods; multiple sensor test platforms; automated vapor generation methods; sensor array development; performance testing including response characterization & calibration.
