Problem: Handheld, low cost instrument required for on-site measurement of iodine vapor at low concentrations (~5 ppm)

- Developed selective coating for iodine vapor detection using optical absorption
- Demonstrated 2-wavelength fiber optic probe to provide robust measurement
- Developed battery powered, handheld programmable instrument
- Instrument capable of detecting other vapors using other selective coatings
