Tailor IMS for Specific Applications (233)

Sample Phase

Although IMS is known mainly as a vapor phase instrument or for detecting trace particles via thermal desorption of wipe samples, other sample types can be analyzed by changing the sample introduction system. For example, aqueous solutions can be analyzed directly by using electrospray or a membrane inlet. Solids can be studied by using a laser ablation front end. Many organic liquids can be investigated by using a headspace analysis technique.
