Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Review measurement system requirements
  • Develop measurement concepts alternatives
  • Evaluate alternative concepts in the laboratory
  • Select best candidates for further development
  • Develop and conduct bench-scale dynamic testing of selected methods to validate method practicality
  • Develop, assemble, and validate integrated system design including inspection modules, mechanical handler, electronics and control system, interface to plant production equipment, and software tools for reporting production statistics
  • Deliver, install and validate system performance in production plant
  • Develop and deliver complete design and operational support documentation package
  • Train facility staff for operation and maintenance of system
  • Provide extended period support as needed

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Electro-optic and eddy current expertise for measurement concept development and optimization; mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, and trouble shooting; electrical design, fabrication, and trouble shooting for system drive, signal processing, controls, data reporting, and interface to plant systems; computer system engineering and software for system controls/monitoring, production data analysis, and results reporting; development of complete engineering design documentation including engineering drawings and manuals; in-plant system installation, trouble shooting, and performance validation; on-site staff training for operation and maintenance of the system equipment; and long-term support of system including development and deployment of selected subsystem upgrades as requested.
