Problem: Grid operators need real-time understanding of the key issues indicated by vast data sets from the electrical grid.

PNNL Solution:

  • Formed multi-disciplinary teams to develop effective data analysis and visualization tools to improve real-time, rapid operations
  • Leveraged human factor, ergonomic, and outcome analysis to ensure tools are effective in dynamic control center operating environment
  • Evaluated performance in PNNL's Electricity Infrastructure Operations Center (EIOC)

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Transient stability analysis, small signal stability analysis, voltage stability assessment, electrical power system dynamics analysis, electrical system dynamics modeling, application of machinery theory, load modeling, model validation, software development.
