Tools for Electric Grid Stability Analysis (268)

Graphic showing signals from electric grid stability analysis

Problem: Need improved analytical tools to assess the impact of key factors on electrical grid stability and system behavior

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Developed superior analytical tools that enable: a) identification of major system operating characteristics and b) better understanding of system behavior and subsystem effects
  • Accepts inputs from measurements and power system simulation software
  • Tools are user friendly, publicly available and leverage commonly used commercial software

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Specialized data analysis methods including Fourier analysis, Prony analysis, and modal analysis; electrical power system dynamics analysis; software development; data presentation and interpretation.
