Automated Data Preprocessing & Distillation (308)

Problem: Need automated, on-line preprocessing of massive, raw data sets to facilitate understanding by researchers

Visual Analogy graphic

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Circuits and Devices through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Develop system to automate proven preprocessing methods
  • Employed distributed, parallel PC network architecture to achieve required processing rates
  • Integrate commercial and proprietary analysis code to efficiently and rapidly execute analyses
  • Interface to data storage system
  • Automatically processes current data flows with minimal staff effort

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Creation of a multidisciplinary team to develop automation analysis system. Mass spectrometry domain experts coupled with software developers to convert the manual process of spectra interpretation into an automated analysis software system. The development team established the requirements and the architecture for the system. Distributed data analysis using low cost networked PC system to allow cost-effective, high-system throughput. Fusion of data from different mass spec technologies into a common database of identifications. Large team of software developers using a wide array of development products, C, C++, Visual Basic, Sequel Server, and Perl. System assembly, validation and documentation. End-user training. System support for routine operation.
