Instrumented Buoy for Coastal Waters (181)
Problem: Need a quick response, remote monitoring capability for natural resource assessments in coastal waters
Research BuoyProject Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart):
Circuits & Devices through Integrated Systems
PNNL Solution:
- Developed & deployed an instrumented buoy which provided real-time marine data
- Selected instruments for remote, in-situ measurement of biological, chemical & physical processes
- On-board data acquisition & radio link systems allowed remote data transfer
- Instruments provided ground truth data for satellite validation & calibration
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs (additional description): Establish measurement requirements; establish integrated buoy system conceptual design; evaluate commercial intrsument options to meet needs against both measurement & deployment requirements; procure and adapt componenets & subsystems; field test demonstration; deployed as needed to meet project requirements.
