Inventory Health Monitoring Demonstration (387)

Problem: Develop an integrated system that provides remote users accurate, real-time munitions "health status" awareness.

Graphic representing flow path; remote data retrieval, health assessment, assign condition, update tag indicator LED through pallet tags Sensors with RF Communications (FlexiTag) (384) Autonomous Sensors for Shipping Containers (212)

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Circuits and Devices through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Implemented pallet tag with onboard munitions condition threshold detection.
  • Performed remote data analysis and assessment of "health status."
  • Assigned munitions a condition based on weighted sensor data.
  • Updated remote tag with LED indicator reflecting condition.

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Analog and digital circuit design and implementation; compact, low power electronic design (surface mount electronics development); communication (query/response) protocols for efficient, non-colliding data exchange; sensor selection and interface design; microprocessor application with embedded software; energy efficient task scheduling; radio frequency (RF) field theory for antenna design and field propagation; compact RF antenna design; RF communication links; prototype RF telemetry module design, fabrication, and evaluation; packaging design for compact, robust deployment modules; lab testing; test planning and analysis; documentation of technical basis and results.
