Analysis for Effective Hardware Development (432)

Problem: Need efficient* evaluation of complex electromagnetic and electro-mechanical concepts before hardware design.

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Circuits and Devices.

PNNL Solution:

  • Analytical modeling and simulation tools used for concept evaluation
    • Feasibility assessment
    • Identification of concept flaws
    • Identification of improvement options
  • Results provide the basis for:
    • Rational GO/NO GO decisions
    • Optimized hardware design
  • Costs associated with iterative hardware design cycles are reduced

*Cost and time efficient.

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Knowledge of electro-magnetic, electro-mechanical, and thermo-mechanical phenomena and physics; operational skill and experience with a number of advanced electromagnetic and electro-mechanical analytical and modeling tools that can be tailored to address diverse application requirements; critical engineering review and understanding of predicted performance to allow design optimizations; development and evaluation of design improvements to achieve needed performance levels; evaluation and design documentation; reporting.
