Problem: Provide process monitoring and control solutions for a variety of applications using various of technologies.

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Controls and Measurements

PNNL Solution:

  • Conduct process analysis to determine key operating issues and important problem indicators and control parameters
  • Establish measurement method and validate ability to obtain required data
  • Implement feedback and control equipment
  • Validate system performance against operating objectives

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Capabilities varied from project to project (see individual capability pages for more detail) but often included: Process analysis to determine key indicator and control parameters (including system measurements of important chemical, electrical, and/or mechanical parameters); development of measurement and control strategies including selection of necessary sensors, signal processing, and control equipment; design of mechanical and electrical components and subsystems; signal detection and processing electronics; statistical analysis methods; artificial neural networks and related methods; software development for system control, data acquisition, processing, and storage; system design and performance documentation; test planning and analysis; documentation of experimental design and results.
