Problem: Develop control architecture allowing autonomous operation in assigned domains to simplify operator controls

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Controls and Measurements through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Develop control architecture that provides for situation based control assignments (robot vs. operator)
  • Operator can assign autonomous operation for simple/learned tasks
  • Operator gains confidence in robot from experience and autonomous domain "grows" with time
  • Operator retains control for tasks outside assigned autonomy domain

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: robotics, field robotics, autonomous navigation and exploration, automated decision making, human-machine interfaces, control systems, distributed multi-tasking software development, 3D terrain mapping, artificial intelligence, sensor integration and interpretation laser scanners, cameras, gyros and odometry, inertial navigation/Kalman filter, system test and evaluation.
