Custom Digital Integrated Circuit Development (443)

Problem: Need prototype integrated circuit (IC) devices to validate design performance against simulated predictions.

PNNL Staff Solution*:

  • Designed application specific circuit
  • Ran circuit simulation to confirm it met application requirements
  • Converted to IC layout and ran simulation to evaluate expected performance
  • Contracted for low-volume fabrication of prototype devices for test and evaluation
  • Tested devices to evaluate design and simulation results against requirements

*Work conducted under PI's Ph.D. thesis project at Washington State University.

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Application requirement evaluation; design circuit discrete component circuit to meet requirements; run simulation of circuit design to test against application requirements; develop integrated circuit (IC) layout to implement circuit design in a practical IC device; obtain prototype IC devices from contract fabrication vendor; test prototype IC devices; compare device performance against simulation predictions and application requirements.
