Summary Comparison of Technology Options:
- Passive tags are simple, short range (<5 meters), and the lowest cost tag. They have no battery and must be polled (i.e. externally interrogated). (292)
- Semi-passive tags have medium communication ranges (~ 100 meters) with capability to perform input monitoring, output control, and sensing. Semi-passive tags must be polled (i.e. externally interrogated). (293)
- Active tags have the longest communication range (> 200 meters) with capability to perform monitoring, control, and have multiple sensor inputs. Capabilities also include neural network decision making. Active tags can initiate communications. (294)
