User I/O for RF Tags & Wireless Sensors (302)
Problem: Need compact, user-friendly, application specific operator I/O units for Radio Frequency (RF) tags and wireless sensors
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Sensors and Devices through Integrated Systems
PNNL Solution:
- Develop user I/O units to meet specific application requirements (read only, read/write, range, communication frequency, data exchange rates, operating lifetime, size/weight, etc.)
- Optimize for performance with application tags and in operating environment
- Complete successful application demonstrations
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Radio frequency (RF) field theory for antenna design and field propagation; information theory for evaluation of read/write distance effects on data transfer rates; analog and digital electronics design; interface design to night vision goggles to allow function control; surface mount electronics development; mechanical design and fabrication; user interface design including software for user I/O; test planning and analysis; documentation of technical basis and results.
