Control System for Complex Robot Arm (146)

Control System for Complex Robot Arm

Problem: Need sensor and control system that can operate a highly articulated robotic arm without striking obstacles

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Circuits & Devices through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Specified and built sensor/actuator suite to provide arm/joint position knowledge and motion control
  • Developed sensor readout and control software for arm operation
  • Successfully demonstrated arm operation in work zone with physical obstructions

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Linear position sensors and motor-driven actuators for each robotic joint; dedicated computer for robot monitoring and position control; software for trajectory control to avoid obstacles; graphical user interface development; video representation of robot configuration; custom motor controller electronics; system design, assembly, check-out, and documentation; hardware delivery to client site.
