Electronic "Fish" Records In Situ Stresses (31)
Problem: Measure conditions fish experience passing through electric generator turbines and spillways at hydroelectric dams
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Circuits & Devices through Integrated Systems
PNNL Solution:
- Designed instrumented "fish" to record data during turbine and spillway transit
- On-board sensors measure pressure and acceleration
- Waterproof data acquisition system stores temporal data record
- "Fish" placed upstream of turbine and spillways and recovered after transit for data retrieval and data analysis
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Capabilities employed: Compact, low power sensor suite selection; analog and digital electronics design; data acquisition system development including embedded control software; multi-layer surface mount circuit board fabrication; lab testing; mechanical design of "fish" body that allows all data to be recorded and ensures instrumentation survival; field testing.
