Problem: Develop process control and material tracking system for manufacturing Radio-Isotope Thermal Generators

PNNL Solution:
- Developed multi-node, distributed architecture process monitoring system that provides operator alarms when process is outside specified operating envelope, a record of all processing steps and nuclear material disposition, and reports for process QA and for Special Nuclear Material inventory tracking
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: System architecture design established using multi-node distributed control system [used SQL, Client Server, 4GL, GUI]; detailed system design including selection of commercially available modules and design of necessary specialized modules/subsystems; system integration design including interfaces, interconnections, measurement and monitoring sensor suite, actuators, and overall control system; design of material tracking and documentation for Special Nuclear Material application and nuclear product tracability; installation and validation of system operation; full system documentation.
