Automated Solar Cell Characterization (135)

Automated Solar Cell Characterization

Problem: Need a reliable method to determine spectral response for a broad range of developmental solar cells

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Developed test protocol suitable for evaluation of R&D solar cells based on community practices
  • Developed automated laboratory measurement system to support validation testing of protocol
  • Reported results to community
  • Assisted in standards development

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Photovoltaic cell physics analysis; optical system design including background illumination & scanned, spectral source; mechanical design; system fabrication and assembly; electronics design (signal processing, control circuits, computer interfaces); software development (system controls, data acquisition and processing, results presentation); system utilization for PV cell analysis, system & test result documentation.
