Radio Telemetry for Distributed Sensors (28)

Radio Telemetry for Distributed Sensors

Problem: Develop equipment to economically gather data remotely from an array of field deployed sensors

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Circuits & Devices through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Developed radio data link concept based on commercial components
  • Designed and built prototype sensor interface and data telemetry modules
  • Performed lab and field tests of data link modules with multiple sensors
  • Transferred design to client for commercialization

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Radio frequency (RF) field theory for antenna design and field propagation; analog and digital electronics design; surface mount electronics development; prototype RF telemetry module design, fabrication, and evaluation; power conservation circuitry; mechanical design for weather survivable packaging; lab testing; test planning and analysis; documentation of technical basis and results.
