Problem: Need to understand primary factors associated with abnormal degradation and failure of operating equipment

PNNL Solution:

  • Establish analysis strategy and tools to measure stress factors and analyze fault mechanisms
  • Review design to determine expected performance
  • Record operating system data and analyze failure/degradation effects to understand mechanisms
  • Correlate stressor intensity to useful residual life
