Image Enrichment Using Data Fusion (210)

Images show relationship between spectral information and spatial resolution.

Problem: Need semi-automated, statistical tools for feature extraction & change assessment from multi-mode images

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Measurement & Analysis System Applications

PNNL Solution:

  • Developed unique image fusion methods
  • Sharpened low resolution images using inverse Kriging method
  • Used Conditional Mixing Model on high spatial resolution images to sharpen high spectral resolution images
  • Developed unique methods for 2-d feature extraction, change assessment & to exploit spatial relationships of image features

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Statistical tools for data analysis; unique image fusion techniques including: a) inverse Kriging to sharpen a low spatial resolution image (based on a small subset overlapping a high spatial resolution image); b) Conditional Mixing Model uses high spatial resolution imagery to sharpen high spectral resolution imagery (these images do not have to overlap in spectral regions); and c) developed Hidden Markov Model for unique 2-d feature extraction and change assessment, and to exploit spatial relationships of targets.
