Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart):
Circuits and Devices through Measurement & Analysis System Applications

PNNL Solution:

  • Evolving measurement requirements and target liquids
    • Early 1990's - munitions inspection instrument
    • Mid 1990's - instrument for treaty verification
    • Late 1990's - instrument for smuggling detection
    • ~2001 - "smuggling" instrument commercialization
    • ~2003 - small, sealed container instrument
  • On-going development of needed tools

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Laboratory measurement of acoustic properties of selected liquids (targets of interest and common commercial/industrial liquids) to develop signature library; analysis of library signatures to identify distinguishing signal features; develop and evaluate laboratory measurement system to leverage key signature differences; design prototype equipment for practical method evaluation; develop data analysis algorithms and software for instrument control and data analysis; demonstrate instrument performance; document design and performance; train staff in system operation; commercialize instrument to ensure source for instruments to meet client requirements.
