Field Measurement of Cloud Coverage (174)

All-Sky Image with Instrument Modules and Trailer Completed trailer-portable multisensor system including the fisheye all-sky cloud camera, multiple line-of-sight remote photometers, remote infrared temperature monitoring instruments, sky brightness scanning radiometer and others. The circular image is representative of fisheye all-sky images.

Problem: Need ground-based, real-time field measurements of overhead cloud patterns to correlate with other test data

PNNL Solution:

  • Used video camera & computer controlled "fisheye" lens to record live, full-sky images
  • Cloud camera integrated with a multisensor atmospheric radiometry system for atmospheric studies
  • Trailer mounted system delivered to support field experiments

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Optical radiometry; optical system design; electronic engineering; computer system engineering; control, data acquisition, and data analysis software development; fiber optic data communications; mechanical design for equipment fixtures & system packaging; design documentation; system delivery & operational validation.
