Complex Fluid Type Governs Behavior (203)
Problem: Complex fluid behavior (type) knowledge is needed to guide rheology measurements & data analysis
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Measurement & Analysis System Applications
PNNL Solution:
- Fluid type governs rheological behavior (Newtonian/conventional fluids vs. non-Newtonian fluids)
- Preliminary lab tests allow fluid type identification to support valid measurement approach & analysis
- If advantageous, fluid simulants can be developed/selected for lab testing & measurement validation
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Physics of fluids including Newtonian & non-Newtonian fluids; fluid dynamics phenomena, measurement methods, & data analysis (development of experimental flow loop and interpretation of measurements); analytical modeling of fluid dynamic effects including configuration specific systems performance; rheological simulant development & evaluation; laboratory equipment & fractional scale equipment to support measurements of rheological properties & fluid system performance; field measurement capabilities.
