Surface Topography Measurements (91)

Problem: Develop automated method to determine surface topography details on developmental fiberglass panels

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Measurement & Analysis Method Development through Integrated Systems

Surface Topography Measurements High Vertical Resolution Perspective High vertical resolution perspective view of nominally flat fiberglass panel

PNNL Solution:

  • Demonstrated optical method for Surface Topography Measurements
  • Developed test panel mechanical scanner and computer system (system control and data acquisition/analysis)
  • Installed in client R&D lab
  • NOTE: Analysis provided surface slope subtraction and surface contour plots

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Optical system design; mechanical design; system fabrication and assembly; electronics design (signal processing, control circuits, computer interfaces); software development (system controls, data acquisition and processing, results presentation); on-site installation; system documentation.
