Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Imaging (114)

Real-time Ultrasonic Inspection System

Problem: Develop a reliable method to locate, and, if possible, image buried objects in suspected waste sites

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Developed antenna array to record real-time, GPR holographic data
  • Deployed fieldable GPR system
  • Used computer analysis of holographic GPR data to provide visual image of buried objects
  • Successfully detected and visualized buried waste objects with GPR holographic imaging system

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Advanced holographic data analysis/imaging algorithm and software development; advanced microwave transceiver development; microwave antenna array development; embedded real-time computer software development; EDL facility for large-scale, indoor GPR testing.
