Automated Object Shape Recognition (69)

Problem: Develop method for rapid, automated classification or recognition of objects based on shape

Automated Object Shape Recognition

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Measurement & Analysis System Applications

PNNL Solution:

  • Performed Fourier analysis of object shape; this enabled rapid classification/recognition
  • Prepared Fourier transform filters (FTFs) for target shapes
  • Used Bench-top Optical Correlator with FTFs for method evaluation
  • Conducted tests to demonstrate classification method performance

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Optical Fourier transform analysis; optical correlator for parallel processing of image data; digital image processing; software development; smart multiplexed Fourier filter development.
