PNNL Solution:
- Determined reliable ultrasonic signature for chemical weapons (CW) material identification
- Developed backpack instrument with automated CW identification capability (3 mo. elapsed time)
- Developed and deployed second generation hand-held instrument
- Capability resulted in R&D 100 Award and FLC Award
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Ultrasonic technology; acoustic physics; electronics (signal processing, microprocessors, transducer design); embedded software (controls, decision making, data storage, user interface); packaging; overall system design.
