PNNL Solution:
- Used pulsed laser holography to "instantly" record full spray "image"
- Image spray in test chambers, intake ports, and combustion chamber
- Developed automated hologram analysis to determine droplet sizes
- Demonstrated spray imaging and data analysis for commercial fuel injectors
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Optical system design for holographic imaging; spray chamber design with optical access; pulsed laser application; optical system design for hologram interrogation; image processing and analysis; electronics (digital); software for control and data reduction; mechanical component design; system integration.
