Non-Contact Valve Seat Inspection (110)
Acceptable valve without critical scratches
Problem: Provide non-contact method to detect defects in valve seats that would effect valve performance
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Measurement and Analysis Method Development through Measurement & Analysis System Applications
PNNL Solution:
- Employed fiber-optic borescope system to inspect interior surface of valve housings for scratch defects
- Designed illumination system to provide optimal defect detection
- Used video image enhancement to improve critical scratch detection
- Successfully demonstrated method
