Interaction of Sunlight with the Atmosphere (74)

Interaction of Sunlight with the Atmosphere

Problem: Establish improved understanding of how Earth's atmospheric radiative processes affect the climate

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Interaction Mechanisms through Measurement & Analysis System Applications

PNNL Solution:

  • Established key radiative processes
  • Installed & operated solar flux/radiance measurement instruments needed to characterize effects of processes
  • Developed parametric descriptions of clouds & radiation processes
  • Tested these parametric descriptions for use in atmospheric models

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: atmospheric science, sensor development, data processing and analysis; large database management & data distribution.
